ART4Peace - The Missing Peace
Art4Peace (or TheMissingPeace) We see this project as a unique opportunity to explore the idea of art as an interpretation of, and a catalyst for, peace, also democracy, the Human Rights and other references to individual protection. Through the artist's work, we also hope to broaden appreciation of the idea of what peace can bring about in our lives. The project and exhibition title is an evocative play on words - peace will always be elusive, or missing, in our world, but projects such as this shows that dedicating oneself to peace for however long is anything but pointless. The word 'create' is used very loosely. Artists are given the freedom to explore their full life and existence so each 'creation' will be the result of personal interpretation.
The Missing Peace
Art4Peace (The Missing Peace) Exhibition.
Starting on November 11th (Armistice Day, cessation of hostilities WW1) through to December 11th 2011. (This day in 1946, prompted by the devastation of WW2, The United Nations Children Fund was created, a service to provide food and healthcare to children devastated by war).
This exhibition is being held by Contemporary Arts Dunfermline.
A tribute to the late artist Douglas Doig and his plea for a better world. Douglas's work is created from the ashes of most if not all his previous artwork. Artwork that he burnt prior to creating the work on display. His art reflects his fear, his aversion to unrest historically. Each piece is thought-provoking and has layers of meanings. Most importantly each piece is a tribute or, a consequential, indicative piece of art. Amongst the many artists exhibiting is Carla Arouesty Mouniz, a natural born artist from Mexico. Carla produces expressive work, work that is both inspiring and emotive. Carla's own expressions “I wonder why I paint, I do not know, just know that what I paint is melted with what I feel and what I feel is fused with infinity.” Exiled artist Shikyba Azizi has 2 peices. At 25 Shikyba escaped Afghanistan with her brothers and sisters, leaving her mother and the rest of her family behind. “life was anger, destruction and death,” she says hesitantly. “Every time you went out you see dead people lying on the floor, men, women and children. “In war, all people are victims.” Shikyba, like other exiled artists and their work, draws on the political and personal struggles of their lives.
CAD will also be showing an exhibition of work by children from the Palestinian Occupied Territories and Israel called 'Dreaming Peace'. This part of the exhibition has been provided by 'Windows for Peace. Their work is based on a belief in a democratic future for all the people of region, all recognising the others' rights to there with comprehensive human rights and equality. They oppose any violence, oppression, discrimination or occupation.
CAD have loosely used the word 'PEACE' for this exhibition. What it is implying to the visitors is that from the artists own thoughts and chaotic lives, 'Peace' is at the heart of all artistic thought process. The artists are exhibiting their fears and experiences in search of 'armistice' .
This exhibition is also an awareness project offering information from just a few of the many important organisations that work behind our scenes to make this planet a better place. Working to give even the intrinsic of Human Rights to those in desperate need i.e food, water, healthcare and shelter. We all complain of the most unimportant things, the clothes, the shoes and handbags, the standard of food, when, not too far away there are people starving to death, no footwear and certainly with no choices, just the basic, fundamental needs.
CAD are hoping that when you come to their exhibition, you will leave with something to think about.
The Peace Exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Sunday each week 11:00 am – 4:30 pm.
